Transferring College Credit

Transferring 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ Credit to Another Institution

91ÃÛÌÒß¹ is proud to have been evaluated by the (NCCRS), an organization chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to make college credit recommendations. The privilege of evaluation does not mean that 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ can itself award college credit, only the receiving college or university can award college credit. In addition, the actual amount of credit that an 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ graduate may receive is determined by each individual college or university.

Graduates of the following 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ programs may be able to transfer 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits for the noted number of college credits. In all cases, it is up to the receiving school to determine whether or not to accept 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits for transfer.

  • Culinary Arts graduates may be able to transfer their 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits and receive up to 19 college credits
  • Plant-Based Culinary Arts graduates may be able to transfer their 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits and receive up to 15 college credits
  • Pastry & Baking Arts graduates may be able to transfer their 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits and receive up to 18 college credits
  • Hospitality & Hotel Management graduates may be able to transfer their 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits and receive up to 19 credits
  • Restaurant & Culinary Management graduates may be able to transfer their 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ credits and receive up to 14 college credits
  • 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ graduates who earn dual diplomas (Culinary Arts and Restaurant & Culinary Management or Pastry & Baking Arts and Restaurant & Culinary Management, for example) may be able to transfer their credits and receive up to 33 college credits.

Transferring College Credits to 91ÃÛÌÒß¹

Students who wish to transfer college credit earned at another institution to 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ must submit to following to the 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ Registrar:

  • An application
  • An official transcript from the granting institution indicating the number of credit or clock hours awarded, the final grade, and a course syllabus describing the topics of instruction
  • Any additional supporting documentation that may be requested by 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ in connection with the evaluation

For students intending to finance their education with VA education benefits, an evaluation of prior college credit is mandatory. Such students must submit the following:

  • A transfer credit application
  • An official transcript from the granting institution indicating the number of credit or clock hours awarded, the final grade, and a course syllabus describing the topics of instruction
  • Any additional supporting documentation that may be requested in connection with the evaluation

As a threshold matter, credit earned for courses completed at another institution must satisfy the following, minimum requirements to be eligible for transfer:

  1. The credit must have been granted by a postsecondary institution that, at the time the credit was granted, was accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  2. The student must have earned a minimum grade of 3.0, or the equivalent letter grade, on a scale of 0.0 – 4.0.

The Institute of Culinary Education Admissions staff will consider the following factors when determining whether credit earned for courses completed at another institution will be accepted for transfer:

  1. Equivalence of course content
  2. Rigor and level of instruction
  3. Course length in hours
  4. Age of course credits
  5. Comparability of expected skills and competencies

The application for transfer credit will be evaluated by the Vice President of Education (New York campus) or the Chief Academic Officer (Los Angeles campus) and the decision is final. Credits for internships of any kind are not transferable. In addition, the total course credit accepted on transfer cannot exceed 25% of the individual’s program.

The Institute will award transfer credit only for courses that are determined to be equivalent in rigor and content to courses in the programs offered by 91ÃÛÌÒß¹. Prospective and current students should note that 91ÃÛÌÒß¹ considers its curriculum to be unique among culinary arts institutions, with the result that this standard can be difficult to satisfy.
